ABOUT PATRONEN - TWIN PARADOX SERIES 001 | FUNDAMENTAL RECORDS 007
A few months ago I discovered almost by chance Biosoft Records. I love the music of Cygnus and was looking for his releases on Discogs and I found his label. I also checked his Bandcamp and there I discovered Patronen. I have this sensation with only a handful of artists, I mean, to have the feeling that I’m listening to a perfect album.
Then I read the info about how Patronen contacted Biosoft Records and immediately I wrote to Victoria Lukas because I thought she may know Cygnus and maybe would be a good way to know more about Patronen. Victoria felt something similar… Its incredible, but who is he?…
It’s easy to imagine what came next, I contacted Biosoft Recs but getting contact information for Patronen wasn't so easy. All they had was his e-mail and Patronen writes only a few words from time to time.
Today I think they are in the same place as I am now; we still don’t know anything about who is behind the name of Patronen.
Only two months ago I received an email directly from Patronen. Cygnus wrote to him and finally I was able to write some words to him as well. We were exchanging a series of e-mails and we realized we had a very similar vision about the music, the whole concept was quite logical, nothing is more important than the music, it doesn't matter who is behind it and the name and the face even less so...
Today I am still blind about who he really is but I have to say I don’t care, I love the music whoever he is…
ABOUT THE SOUND OF PATRONEN
There is a noticeable background noise in all these tracks and we love it. The background noise is mainly generated due to the recording method of Patronen and the machines he used to produce his tracks.
All tracks are recorded in real time to tape, there is no other reason for it than the quest for a concrete sound and that sound is what you can hear in each track. Modified analog machines recorded directly to tape and then to other tapes …
In the last few weeks Patronen and me discussed what way to choose for the mastering. There are incredible tools today to erase any type of noise, but we decided to keep the recordings exactly as they were. I think it is very important to keep the constant presence of the noise, not only during the tracks, but also the beginnings and ends, so after some tests we decided to keep the original sound of the tapes but with a precise mastering that works for vinyl. We are really proud of the result.
This record is not a compilation of good tracks, it's a conceptual album. Two full albums for the new release of Fundamental Records, the first of our new TWIN PARADOX SERIES... a series of two different albums in the same release.... this time from the same artist!
Fundamental Records is focused on releasing full albums but with a big concept behind the tracks. The project of Patronen is the mirror through which we want to look at ourselves. This album represents a 100% the spirit of Fundamental Records.
As I said multiple times, it is not only about innovation, it is about evolvement but not only about evolving in terms of technology or our skills, it is about evolving our feelings about the music itself. Patronen reflects a true spectrum of feelings in the precise momentum he is creating and recording the music with his custom modulars, synths, drum machines and of course his tape recorders.
I want to put on the record my gratitude to Philip Washington aka Cygnus for his full and generous collaboration.
I know that Patronen feels the same kind of gratitude to Phillip and I can't imagine a better place to express it than here and now.

This is the information I read in the Biosoft Records website when I discovered Patronen
“Biosoft received this unmastered tape from Germany after putting out the call for demo's in January of 2014. Included in the package was the tape containing the songs, and a letter requesting that we keep the identity of the artist a secret.
The songs were produced between the years 1992 and 1994, and "...the cassette was one month away from being moved to storage, along with a many other antique items in my studio", says Patronen, "After over 20 years I still like these tracks enough to get them out, and I think the modern context of the internet and electronic music is fertile ground."
With "Patronen A", Biosoft was joyous to release a collection of classic songs written by the mysterious artist using the moniker "Patronen" (…) we have decided to release the remaining tracks, dating as far back as 1990 as a series, continuing in this part as "Patronen B".
"Patronen B" transmits the theme of dark, illicit electro written in secluded antechambers. Sonically it is science fiction, but simultaneously it is humanly doctrinal. The songs carry a motif of isolation with technology, inspiration within midnight introspections and an appetite for psychic relations. The coarse study of human psychology has unlocked secrets from the internal past and possible, external future destinies; the science of Patronen goes deeper, focusing the telepathic matrix from a 1 dimensional point of consciousness, widening a spectral parallax. Patronen B is a study in telepathology.
The physicists utilizes refined tools to survey the micro-electric relations of the natural world, yet at the quantum level such a technician cannot conduct observations without evoking what is anticipated; similarly the songs of Patronen pursue avenues of the isolated mind, and what is hidden in these microstatic dimensions is evoked. The terminus separating the carnally provocative and the spectrally strange is blurred”.
